Covid-19 PCR Test
PCR tests are a diagnostic method that has been used in the medical field before and has recently been used effectively in the fight against Covid-19. PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test can clearly reveal the virus presence in the person’s body. PCR test can determine the presence of the virus even if the number of viruses in the body is very small. The presence of virus can be checked by PCR tests in people who are called asymptomatic, that is not show any symptoms of the virus. In this way, patients who do not show symptoms can be detected and isolated at the very beginning of the infection, thus the spread of the disease can be controlled.
You can have your PCR test done in our institution or you can request a test at home or at work by contacting us. Our expert staff, who will come to your feet with sterile tools, safely take your PCR sample and you can easily have your PCR test done without leaving your home.
How is the PCR test done?
The PCR test is performed by taking samples called swabs from the mouth and nose with a cotton tip. If this test is performed for the diagnosis of coronavirus disease, it would be more accurate to take samples from the mouth and nose in the early period. However, since the virus may not remain in these areas in the late period of the disease, the test performed by taking a swab from the mouth and nose may not give accurate results. For this reason, it is more correct to take samples from the respiratory tract in the future.
Is this test reliable?
PCR test is a test with high reliability. It plays a decisive role in the Covid-19 outbreak, especially with its role in diagnosing asymptomatic patients.
Where is the PCR test done?
The PCR test is finalized by taking samples and by examining them in laboratories approved by the Ministry of Health.
What are the advantages of the PCR test?
PCR test is primarily a completely painless and effortless test for the person. It is very advantageous in fighting the pandemic because its results are very fast. Since it reveals the presence of the virus even in asymptomatic patients, it plays an active role in patient isolation, contact isolation and stopping virus spread.
When are the test results available?
Generally, the result is reported to the person within 24 hours.
What is the difference between PCR test and Antibody test?
Antigen tests such as PCR should not be confused with antibody tests. Antigen tests are tests that reveal whether the virus is present in the patient’s body. Antibody tests are tests to see if the patient has been infected with the virus before and whether the body has produced antibodies against the virus. While antigen tests are used to diagnose the existing disease, antibody tests are tests that show whether the disease has been passed before. Antibody tests do not give any information about whether the person is sick at the time of the test. While the PCR test is performed by taking a swab from the mouth and nose, the antibody test is performed by taking a blood sample from the person.
Which test should I have?
If you want to find out if you are currently sick or not, you should have a PCR test. If you want to find out if you have had a history of illness, you should have an antibody test.
